Many people focus only on egg whites because they’ve heard they’re a “clean” source of protein and want to avoid fats. But is avoiding the yolk necessary?

Are Egg Yolks Unhealthy?

Not at all!

  • Recent research suggests that yolks may help reduce blood cholesterol levels, contrary to old beliefs.

The Protein in Eggs: A Complete Source

Imagine protein as a big ball made up of 20 smaller pieces, called amino acids.

  • Your body can produce 11 of these amino acids.
  • The remaining 9 are essential amino acids (EAAs), which you must obtain from your diet.

Eggs are unique because they contain all nine essential amino acids, making them a complete protein—an ideal source for muscle repair and growth.

Should You Eat Eggs Raw?

Some bodybuilders used to eat eggs raw to quickly absorb amino acids and because cooking can sometimes reduce amino acid availability.

However, cooking eggs does not ruin their nutritional value. In fact, cooked eggs are safer and easier to digest. So, there’s no need to eat eggs raw to get their benefits.

How Many Eggs Should You Eat in a Day?
